Blood Lead Tests Questioned

NEBRASKA – Certain lead level tests in children are being thrown out and new tests ordered.

The Food and Drug Administration has issued a safety warning regarding the use of Magellan Diagnostics LeadCare® blood analyzers which may have provided false results.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is working with public health officials across the country to determine where the analyzers were used and what test results could be affected.

It is recommended that the tests be re-applied to:
– Children under 6 years
– If you had a venous blood lead test result of less than 10 micrograms per deciliter (μg / dL).
– Pregnant and lactating women.
