LEXINGTON, Neb.- City officials are urging homeowners to go green in their yards and gardens by eliminating or lessening the use of toxic herbicides and pesticides.
Other environmental friendly recommendations include:
– Use plants native to Nebraska; they require less fertilizer and water, and are more resistant to disease.
– Avoid over-watering your lawn: you need one inch of water / rain per week.
– Use mulch around trees and plants to help retain water, reduce weeds, and minimize the need for pesticides.
-Cut your lawn high: 3 inches is the rule. Try to leave grass clippings on the lawn.
