OMAHA, Nebraska. – 36 people from 13 different countries pledged allegiance to America this morning during a naturalization ceremony at Metro Community College’s South Omaha Campus.
For many of the legal residents, becoming a U.S. citizen is a dream.
“It feels incredible,” says Saul Santos Escobedo from Mexico “It’s what I have been waiting for a long time. Today is the day and I am happy. I am even nervous, very emotional.”
“Immigration is not just a link to Americas’ past ,” said Federal Judge administering the Oath. “It is also a bridge to America’s future.”
The new citizens came from Cuba, El Salvado, Guatemala, Mexico, Kenya, Vietnam, Somalia, Thailand and Somalia.
