Opposing Coach Questions Hispanic Player’s Gender

An Hispanic soccer player from Omaha was shut out of a Springfield tournament this weekend when the opposing coach questioned the player’s gender.

“I explained to the tournament director that she was a girl and he said no is a boy,” says Mo Farivari, who runs the Azzurri soccer club which includes the Omaha Cachorro girls team.

Farivari says he has an official I-D from the Nebraska Soccer Association stating that Milagros Hernandez is a girl.

According to Faivari, the other coach didn’t want to listen.

“He didn’t want to spend the time identifying if that was a boy or a girl.” Farivari said.

The president of the club feels that his kids were let down by the other side’s inability to examine the facts. Joins us tomorrow for more on this story as Telemundo Nebraska talks with the girl, her family and her coach.
